Radio Hoyer 1 101.9 FM is a historic Papiamentu-language radio station based in Willemstad, Curaçao. Founded by Horacio Erasmo “Yacho” Hoyer and officially launched on March 10, 1954, Radio Hoyer 1 became the first radio station to broadcast in Papiamentu, giving Curaçao a platform for its own language, music, culture and local voices.
Broadcasting today on 101.9 FM, Radio Hoyer 1 combines local and international news, information, talk, entertainment and music while maintaining its strong connection with the Curaçao community. For generations, the station has played an important role in keeping listeners informed while promoting Papiamentu and Curaçaoan culture.
Radio Hoyer also has a history of technical innovation. In 1984, the station made broadcasting history by operating its FM transmission entirely on solar energy. More than seven decades after its founding, Radio Hoyer remains an important part of Curaçao's radio and cultural history.
